As part of our 40th Anniversary celebration, we have a series of preserving and cooking demonstrations lined up starting in May.
Food Preservation Demos
Jordan Champagne, from Happy Girl Kitchen Company, will be demonstrating her signature preserving techniques, explaining food safety issues, and sharing her special recipes. Many of you may be familiar with her products that are sold at local specialty stores and markets. Demos will include how to make low-sugar jams, sauerkraut, pickles, and how to can tomatoes. Preserving demonstrations will be held at the Friday Monterey Farmers Market at Monterey Peninsula College and at the Saturday Aptos Farmers Market at Cabrillo College.
Berry Jam Demonstration – Jordan Champagne :: May 13-14
Stone Fruit Demonstration – Jordan Champagne :: June 11
Pickles Demonstration – Jordan Champagne :: July 8-9
Canning Tomatoes Demonstration – Jordan Champagne :: August 13
How to Make Sauerkraut – Jordan Champagne :: September 10
Chef Anne Baldzikowski and her crew of culinary students from Cabrillo College will be teaching two classes this summer — Sweet and Savory Crepes and Apple Fritters, using produce from the farmers market.
If you’re a regular customer, chances are you have met Chef Anne Baldzikowski at the Aptos Farmers Market where she frequently shops on Saturdays, or perhaps you’ve taken a weekend extension cooking class with her at Cabrillo College. Or maybe you are one of the many students she has taught over the years in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California. However you know Anne, it’s clear she’s a vital part of the Santa Cruz culinary scene and is now the author of a new cookbook, Easy Artisan: Simple Elegant Recipes for the Everyday Cook.
