What’s New at the Market — September

MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
Freshly baked sourdough loaves and boule made with organic flour are now available at Sweet Elena’s Bakery booth. These breads are like a taste of Europe — and are similar to the hearty breads Elena grew up eating in France. Several variations are available — white sourdough bread, whole wheat sourdough bread, and whole wheat with hazelnuts and raisins.

Pensi Pasta Company is introducing a new gluten-free, Paleo-diet friendly treat to her line up this month — Key Lime Pie Squares. Tangy and sublime — the perfect dessert for our warm, Indian summer weather! And don’t miss Evette’s Pumpkin-Chipotle Salsa — drizzle it over an egg-sausage breakfast taco.

Have you discovered the new Swiss-style yogurt and thick Greek-style yogurt at Schoch Family Farmstead? You’re in for a treat if you have never tasted a Swiss culture of yogurt — it’s thinner consistency makes it perfect to pour over fresh berries or ripe peaches, or over your favorite granola.

Also, not to be missed is the creamy, thick, and mild sheep’s milk yogurt from Garden Variety Cheese. Use a dollop of this yogurt with one of Sweet Elena’s fruit galettes — magnifique!

Small batch, artisan preserves featuring seasonal “fruits of the month” are now available at Malabar Trading Company. This month’s line up includes Vanilla Pear Preserves, Spiced Carrot Preserves (tastes like carrot cake!), Peach Preserves, and their special Strawberry-Balsamic Preserves — all are delicious spread on scones or biscuits, and served with tea, of course!
