What’s New at the Market — October

MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
Fresh pomegranates and fresh pomegranate juice are available at Rancho Padre Farm. If you’re a little unclear about how to seed a pomegranate, we have some useful tips and tricks. And here are a few delicious pomegranate recipes to add to your recipe collection.  

Just in time for the upcoming holidays, mulling spices and honey crème products are back at Malabar Trading Company in three flavors: Rum, Almond and Orange. 

Minazzoli Farms has fresh chestnuts available — much earlier than usual like much of our produce this year.  Here’s a tutorial about How to Roast Chestnuts.

Bill-the-Bulb Baron returns to the Aptos Farmers Market this month with his narcissus bulbs and amaryllis cut flowers. Visit his website for more information about growing bulbs and the many varieties he offers.

Pensi Pasta Company is introducing a new product this month — Creamy Maple Pumpkin Spread, perfect for toast, bagels, pancakes, waffles, or as a fruit dip with apple slices. Evette will also have her Fresh Pomegranate Salsa in stock — this versatile  condiment can be used as a salsa with corn chips or as a relish for grilled fish, pork chops, or chicken. 

The Sunday Del Monte Farmers Market at the Del Monte Shopping Center will be closing at the end of October. The Carmel and Del Monte Farmers Markets will reopen in Spring 2016. In the meantime, Carmel and Monterey customers can visit the Monterey Farmers Market at Monterey Peninsula College on Fridays, 10 am – 2 pm. There is plenty of free parking and easy access to the market.
