Products: Begonias

History/Philosophy: Elva Navarro has been growing gorgeous begonias at her nursery, Navarro Plants, since 2001. She is the first generation to grow these colorful patio plants, and produces 400 to 500 each year. Elva starts them from tubers purchased from Antonelli Brothers. The nursery is not certified organic but Elva uses an organic fertilizer to help the begonias grow and thrive. When customers ask about how to care for the begonias, she recommends that the plants be placed in a special spot in the yard that receives only morning or afternoon sun. She also suggests watering every few days to keep the soil moist. When watering, it’s important to avoid getting the leaves wet because they are prone to develop a powdery mildew.
