History/Philosophy: Since B & R Farms began in 1929 in San Benito County, five generations have worked on the farm! The first owners were the parents of Elsie Rossi, the vendor you will see at the Aptos and Monterey markets. Elsie was born in 1924; she started cutting apricots or ‘cots’ when she was 5 years old at her grandfather’s ranch next to the Winchester Mystery House. She has been involved with the family farm ever since. Elsie and her husband Emil took over the farm from her parents, and now Elsie’s son, Jim and his wife Mari run it full time. B & R Farms is not certified organic but the fruit is grown without the use of pesticides.
